Dumas and lately st. 02:39 Dumas feels like jean-paul Valley is not 02:41 living up to his full potential that 02:43 he's lost his edge he's not doing the 02:46 things he should be doing he's not 02:47 punishing the heretics he's not 02:49 punishing the infidels he's not 02:51 punishing the evil of the world as he 02:53 should and in this one shot jean-paul 02:56 Valley feels as though he has to make up 02:58 for it all he has to get st. Dumas back 03:01 on his side but he wants to be able to 03:03 do so by also being the bat at the same 03:05 time and one of the things I feel like 03:07 really kind of points out a lot of 03:09 jean-paul Valley shortcomings is that he 03:11 is not naturally a good detective the 03:14 way Batman is he has to rely on the 03:16 bat-computer more than even Batman does 03:18 and that's some of this very well 03:20 illustrated here in the series I mean 03:23 yeah he's a great fighter sure but can 03:25 he answer the Riddler's riddles on the 03:27 fly like Batman can I don't think so now 03:30 as for Punisher Punisher has come to 03:33 Gotham because he basically is following 03:35 jinx the only problem is that when 03:37 Punisher shows up in town he's doing his 03:39 shtick the way he always does beating up 03:42 criminals mercilessly taking names 03:44 occasionally but not feeling quite as 03:46 trigger-happy as he usually is when he's 03:49 back at 03:49 that's something that you'll notice very 03:51 quickly in this book because this 03:52 technically is I guess would be DC's 03:55 side of the crossover more so than 03:58 everybody else in this particular run 04:00 Marvel technically takes on the second 04:02 crossover which I find very interesting 04:04 because that's the one that has Bruce 04:06 Wayne but anyways 04:07 neither here nor there Punisher is 04:09 booked rather incompetently in this it 04:12 seems as though he has fallen into 04:14 jigsaw straps see what jigsaw has done 04:16 is that he's decided to run off to 04:18 Gotham and kind of kick off this really 04:21 crazy convoluted scheme he's 04:24 commissioned for this compound of rocket 04:26 fuel that can set water aflame and 04:28 they're basically doing a modified 04:30 version of the whole poison Gotham's 04:32 water supply they're gonna plant this 04:35 rocket fuel in the water and set it 04:37 ablaze causing massive damage to 04:39 Gotham's water supply and its overall 04:42 infrastructure causing millions upon 04:44 billions upon trillions of dollars and 04:46 damage and jigsaw just so happens to 04:49 have a company on standby that he's 04:50 built up that is ready to fix that 04:52 damage for price and that's exactly what 04:55 he's planning to do now one of the more 04:57 interesting pieces in this is a guy by 05:00 the name of rhymer 05:02 a character who is seemingly innocuous 05:04 at first but I have a very sneaking 05:06 suspicion and it's not really explicitly 05:08 stated in this comic but I always got 05:10 the impression that rhymer is not who he 05:12 claims to be and we'll get to that here 05:14 in a minute 05:15 getting back to what jigsaws doing now 05:16 the Punishers tracked down he winds up 05:19 following a lead that takes him to an 05:21 old cathedral in rundown Gotham only 05:24 problem is a nun who's not a nun 05:26 splashes in with some of the compound 05:28 and then they set the entire Cathedral 05:30 on fire now this is how Batman and 05:33 Punisher wind up coming across one 05:35 another while Punisher is prepared to be 05:36 burned alive Batman is the one who comes 05:39 in and saves and here's where it gets 05:41 pretty interesting because you have two 05:42 characters who for the most part have a 05:44 very similar code of ethics if not being 05:47 implied in jean-paul Valley of course 05:49 now being Batman he's more of an agent 05:51 of vengeance for his Punisher isn't that 05:53 much different from the villains that he 05:55 takes out but that's intentional and one 05:58 could even make the argument that John 05:59 Paul Valley is not that much better than 06:01 punishment at least he'll before it 06:02 became bad and even then he's still not 06:04 that much better the problem is as far 06:06 as Batman is concerned he thinks that 06:09 punishes one of the bad guys that he's 06:10 more than willing to take him down The 06:12 Punisher is able to convince him that he 06:14 knows how to get to jigsaw better than 06:16 anybody else 06:17 so if jigsaw is at the heart of this 06:19 then it's only gonna make sense if they 06:20 work together but Batman has already 06:23 made up his mind that once they find who 06:25 they're looking for he is going to take 06:27 Punisher down and the funny thing about 06:29 Punisher and Batman is that they do work 06:31 really well together this is one of 06:32 those situations where two characters 06:34 meet up and they don't necessarily start 06:36 off fighting one another and I like the 06:38 fact that they are vaguely aware of each 06:40 other when they first meet Punisher is 06:42 very aware of who Batman is he did his 06:44 homework Batman is aware of who Punisher 06:48 is even if only vaguely 06:49 they know of each other in passing but 06:51 they don't know everything about one 06:53 another and though Punisher winds up 06:55 ditching Batman because he's pretty sure 06:56 he can figure all this out on his own 06:58 knowing that he doesn't want to have to 07:00 tango with Batman should everything get 07:02 wrapped up too quickly 07:03 Batman and Punisher go their separate 07:05 ways after Batman drops a tear gas 07:07 pellet and of course gifting Punisher a 07:09 rebreather so he doesn't pass out along 07:11 with the criminals that they're taking 07:12 out something that's gonna bite him in 07:14 the ass and a little bit you see when 07:15 Batman finally follows the leads back to 07:17 rhymer Reimer starts seeing he tells 07:19 everything he gives up the plan 07:22 everything this guy is cut in an album 07:24 of the greatest hits in history so that 07:26 he doesn't get his ass kicked any more 07:28 than it already is honestly the only 07:30 reason why he's doing it is because it's 07:31 already too late everything is about to 07:33 kick off in less than 10 minutes 07:35 Gotham's water supply is going to be 07:37 wiped off the face of the earth and 07:39 wouldn't you know who owned the pony 07:40 Batman actually gets there in time 07:42 took toward the scheme almost too easily 07:44 he disses the Gotham reservoir with less 07:47 than a minute to spare and in that time 07:49 frame is able to commandeer a wrecking 07:52 and is able to crash the reservoir what 07:54 a little bit of fire does kickoff is not 07:56 even enough to damage anything and of 07:58 course while Batman is doing that 07:59 Punisher is able to go catch up with 08:01 jigsaw this is where Punishers and 08:04 competence shows up a lot he makes a lot 08:06 of rookie mistakes 08:07 for a guy who's as experienced as 08:09 himself in jigsaw gets the upper hand on 08:11 him more than a couple of times in this 08:13 fight where Punisher where he normally 08:15 would just have shot jigsaw 08:17 he gives jigsaw enough time to crack him 08:18 in the face with a phone throws a knife 08:20 at him aimed at his heart and misses it 08:22 entirely hitting his gun instead even 08:24 wins of getting shot by jigsaw in the 08:26 arm and when he's trying to run jigsaw 08:28 down he winds up catching a boot in the 08:30 face for his troubles he does manage to 08:32 throw cheeks off a ledge but Batman is 08:34 the one who manages to catch him and 08:36 stop him from falling well almost 08:38 and when Batman goes to deal with the 08:40 Punisher this is when Joker shows up out 08:43 of nowhere and this is supposed to be 08:45 setting up some bigger things because I 08:46 believe in the next crossover jigsaw and 08:49 Joker are gonna be working together and 08:51 you can already tell this not going to 08:53 be some kind of mutually beneficial 08:55 business relationship because it already 08:57 comes off as one-sided jigsaw already 09:00 seems to not be up for Joker's and 09:03 of course we finally have the fight that 09:05 always happens inevitably between two 09:07 superheroes when they cross paths with 09:09 one another and this is where we 09:11 separate the men from the boys Punisher 09:14 and Batman they go toe-to-toe with each 09:16 other at the end of the day this version 09:18 of Batman is not equipped to handle the 09:21 Punisher now of course yes he has the 09:23 bulletproof suit he's able to fend off 09:25 any bullets that Punisher sends his way 09:26 and somehow Punisher seems surprised at 09:29 this but what Batman is not prepared for 09:31 is that Punisher doesn't fight fair 09:33 Punisher remembers exactly where in the 09:36 utility belt Batman originally got those 09:38 tear gas pellets from and he uses them 09:40 against him knowing that Batman's mask 09:43 has to be set to rebreather mode 09:45 before he sets off the gas and he 09:48 unleashes a tear gas right at 09:50 point-blank range with jean-paul Valley 09:52 leaving him begging for fresh air and 09:55 Punisher doesn't do anything to him 09:56 after this he pretty much leaves him to 09:58 his own devices and they both cross 10:00 paths again because the next time that 10:02 we see these two characters together 10:04 Bruce Wayne is gonna be the one who's in 10:07 the bat suit and I gotta admit this 10:09 comic is very interesting it's not a bad 10:11 comics actually fairly decent as Marvel 10:14 DC crossovers go they usually have like 10:16 this kind of really weird lame WWE circa 10:20 Attitude Era booking where just random 10:22 things happen for the flimsiest of 10:24 reasons but here yeah they get together 10:26 for the flimsiest of reasons but they 10:28 also kind of get along for the most part 10:30 but they still have to have a 10:31 confrontation towards him I think that's 10:33 the problem I have with comments like 10:35 this this was a very 90s comics and 10:37 considering this is 1994 but at the end 10:40 of it all I thought was a really cool 10:42 crossover better than most between 10:44 Marvel and DC from the past now before 10:47 we get out of here are you thinking 10:48 about checking out this comic because if 10:50 you are checked out in the description 10:52 or
