Why wear a mask? Bill nye Explains
There seems to be a debate among the social media world…based on influence in the political realm, whether or not masks are effective against spreading of COVID-19. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (actual scientists) says “COVID-19 spreads mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can then land in the mouths or noses of other people, or be inhaled into the lungs.” The CDC recommends everyone wear a cloth face covering while in public spaces, especially when other social distancing measures can’t be practiced, to avoid spreading the coronavirus.
A little childhood nostalgia from our most popular Science Teacher
Insert, one of our childhood’s most reliable source. on everything scientific, Bill Nye the Science Guy.
He posted yesterday, why mask wearing is important by giving us an explanation in a way, only he can.
Part 1:
He then, emphasizes his point by trying some of the recommended masks and face covering to attempt to blow out the candle.
Part 2:
What he demonstrated is that contrary to what politicians and your “scientist friends” on social media say, wearing a mask can prove effective in spaces where social distancing isn’t an option. Some of the guidelines coming directly from the CDC on wearing cloth face masks are :
- CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
- Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
- Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.
- Cloth face coverings should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
