Transcript:
00:00 one Saturday morning all right guys this 00:13 of course is Rashad from the color 00:16 commentary crew sorry I phoned up here 00:19 but I've been trying to stop my brother 00:20 from dying I've got my oh my pack here 00:27 is filled with positrons and protons 00:32 electrons I probably should have some 00:37 radiation shielding but uh we're not 00:40 gonna worry about that I might wanna 00:43 have an oxygen mask from will traveling 00:45 through time and there's no oxygen but 00:47 uh we ain't gonna worry about that at 00:49 all 00:49 of course I'm reppin New York probably 00:52 the wrong part of New York this 00:53 Manhattan of course is not Brooklyn but 00:55 it if you're not a New Yorkers on this 00:57 thing 00:58 so we bout to talk about the new movie 01:00 on Netflix see you yesterday it's a 01:04 movie involving time travel it is uh we 01:07 execute to see a movie from the African 01:09 Americans perspective and sci-fi so 01:12 thank you Black Panther so opening it up 01:14 now so we can see movies about black 01:18 important issues but also be science are 01:21 at the same time we excited about that 01:23 so let's get into it all right not so 01:28 nice for know my thoughts on see you 01:31 yesterday I thought the movie was was 01:36 very interesting I thought I'd enjoyed 01:38 it 01:39 scenes from know our perspective that's 01:43 no African American seeing it from 01:46 children teenagers inner-city 01:48 they kind of see that just this just to 01:51 see that we are smart you can be 01:54 scientists you know not every kid is in 01:57 gangs and I have a kid is in the hood 01:59 doing something wrong just trying to 02:02 basically learn a dance feel on snapchat 02:04 and whatever else are on you know those 02:07 kids like seeing black kids and 02:10 inner-city in New York basically 02:13 meets the back to the Phenom but back to 02:18 my I'm saying I really enjoyed seeing it 02:20 from our perspective seeing our race 02:23 represented and understanding that hey 02:26 we are smart we're able to do all these 02:28 type of things that any other person in 02:30 the world can do and seeing the kids in 02:33 the inner city basically oh no any other 02:36 person in the world could do them think 02:37 they were doing tomorrow oh yeah that 02:39 happens it'll go twice the speed of 02:41 light what but I can't say this it was 02:50 hard for me at the beginning the movie 02:51 follows what type of movie am i watching 02:53 cuz I know they're gonna be dealing with 02:55 a serious subject but it seemed a little 02:57 goofy at the beginning of the movie some 03:00 like this is a kid movie like this is 03:02 like a funny batch of the featuring 03:03 right everybody from watch as they 03:05 converse then I heard the dialogue my Oh 03:08 y'all hello to adult and with that we're 03:14 talking on this movie but um but yeah it 03:17 was cool I my daughter before I made 03:20 them not watching these before they were 03:21 like oh wow 03:22 black nerds exist I never seen on TV 03:27 unless like black man she did it she's 03:30 like black the Nerds like cool nerds 03:34 over yeah like I'll experience they 03:37 never thought they only see on people 03:39 that really seems like if they're 03:40 superheroes aren't there like thugs or 03:42 maybe hip-hop stars or dancers or 03:45 something like that 03:45 I'm singer you know so kind of seeing 03:49 like two kids in their City and they're 03:50 not like they're not like at a white 03:52 school or something like that they're 03:54 just at a regular school and they're 03:55 really smart that was pretty cool to see 03:57 so I like the way everything brought 03:59 together with the film 04:00 whoever pitched it I appreciate them so 04:03 that was that was some of the things I 04:05 really liked but like I said the first 04:08 like 20 or 30 minutes and just was I 04:11 don't know it's kind of taking me out of 04:13 it I was gonna support it regardless but 04:15 you know how much Netflix it is like if 04:17 it doesn't you know what I was going 04:20 through some port 04:27 but I was I was definitely you know kind 04:31 of like getting bored I what kind of 04:32 movie is this like when it went back in 04:34 time when they go back in time I was 04:36 like okay I never know I once it gets 04:39 past that part and the really the main 04:41 point of the story gets going is really 04:44 interesting and I really like the way it 04:46 takes you know shape on both of the 04:49 individuals that go back in time I can't 04:51 say you in my opinion I had my own 04:54 feelings about the main the main 04:58 character in the movie 04:59 Jesus my man Clyde just jumped on Jai 05:07 but yeah she see but I guess I guess in 05:12 a way they have to do stupid things so 05:14 you can stay entertained do the show 05:20 they want us to be yelling at the screen 05:22 why don't you just do this yes Spike Lee 05:25 is the man he is the man so but I 05:28 definitely say check it out some Netflix 05:30 great there's a good watch I think 05:33 you'll really enjoy very different 05:35 points you yep 05:41 before the ER non-spoiler review are 05:43 pretty much of a coincidence very nice 05:47 to see something like that again 05:49 representation does matter 05:51 you know growing up like that you know 05:53 again I didn't really see a lot of that 05:56 probably if I had been a young person if 05:57 this movie had come out when I was young 06:00 I probably it would have affected me 06:02 even more and I probably would have 06:04 created a time machine so you know but I 06:06 didn't feel it I wasn't encouraged to 06:09 create a time machine so thanks they 06:12 Spike Lee for waiting so long but um I 06:17 definitely enjoyed that um let me see in 06:21 ash let's say it is unfortunate that we 06:25 have african-americans have to deal with 06:27 some of the issues that are brought up 06:29 in the movie it's like it you know he 06:32 would like to be able to watch a movie 06:33 you know so let me just watch a movie 06:35 about you know kids time-traveling you 06:37 know and 06:38 you know when they go back in time and 06:41 they have to do the reason for them 06:42 having the time travel me it's not a 06:43 secret you know but you know you're like 06:46 gosh I wish they didn't have to do this 06:47 like man like God why do we have to do 06:50 with that but the reality of situation 06:52 is we as african-americans in this 06:53 society do have to deal with those 06:56 things so if it's uncomfortable for you 06:58 to watch a movie you know you prefer to 07:01 watch Back to the Future well you just 07:02 did it with a little bullying and it's 07:04 not really a big deal instead of you 07:06 know police brutality and you know those 07:09 type of things well just think about how 07:11 we the people have to actually deal with 07:13 it like that's that's real life 07:15 because of some of us you don't I mean 07:17 so hey it's in your face though watch it 07:20 and hopefully you learn something um I 07:23 thought was an interesting movie there 07:25 were some things about it I didn't 07:26 necessarily care for and I think we'll 07:28 get into that warm spoiler review again 07:30 some of the decisions that the main 07:32 character or particularly one main 07:34 character not really her decision so 07:35 much it's her her personality a little 07:38 bit kind of kind of rubbed me the wrong 07:40 way sometimes but I still think that you 07:43 should see it because again if you look 07:44 at Back to the Future you know you're 07:46 looking at people doing stupid things 07:49 oh you man what's his name Marty McFly 07:52 he does the same stupid stuff I mean he 07:55 doesn't seem to have anger management 07:56 problems as much but there's so many 08:00 times where all he has to do is the walk 08:03 away or go get in a time machine if 08:04 somebody says what Marty are you chicken 08:09 nobody calls me chicken you know now 08:12 he's doing something stupid so yeah it's 08:14 the same type of thing but again I'll 08:17 spoil my spoiler review would be yeah 08:18 check it out give it a chance and I 08:21 think that this will lead to other 08:22 movies you know you know to the point in 08:26 the future work it's not such a big deal 08:28 where you know it's you know it's all 08:30 black cast moves if that bothers you 08:32 we'll hopefully if they keep doing this 08:34 type of thing it eventually get to a 08:35 point where you don't even you don't 08:37 even see that 08:37 so go so my kids and movies black kids 08:39 and movies they're just kids in the 08:41 movie you know so all right so let us 08:44 now get into the spoiler review we're 08:47 going to spoil that spoiler spoiler 08:48 again we are talking about the movie on 08:51 Netflix 08:53 see you yesterday all right Chuck 08:55 what you get yes sir all right so for 08:59 this movie like I said a little smaller 09:03 I did enjoy look the Parts I didn't do I 09:06 just want to kind of have a little 09:07 discussion on on just going to beginning 09:10 of the movie 09:13 I'm not going to the deep part yet but 09:14 just like the first time they time Trump 09:18 then I almost threw me out I was like uh 09:22 like just that like Netflix you got make 09:25 me turn this channel if you don't hurry 09:27 up and get some CGI something going over 09:29 this on this if I see kids just doing 09:31 this looking like this you know Reading 09:34 Rainbow commercial and little lights 09:36 flashing behind them like this Power 09:38 Rangers I'm not seriously turn this on 09:40 the thor ragnarok or so so like get to 09:46 the point so they have a CGI paper 09:49 flying around and stuff you know just 09:52 like all those people yeah the trash can 09:55 was rambling oh yeah that yeah that's 09:58 what I was telling them like this is 09:59 getting like just take too long my god 10:01 meter no need yourself with this this 10:04 night it's not cool but uh once once 10:08 once I got past that part kind of got 10:10 the story and I really understood you 10:14 know where were I guess what she was 10:17 trying to do I'm CJ was the Claudia was 10:20 her name I think harder okay so just 10:28 real quick your partner Danny he says 10:31 good night there I guess we're getting 10:33 into the spoiler review so he's still a 10:36 hour 30 minutes you say to get like 15 10:40 minutes late he's watching it now oh I'm 10:44 not gonna spoil yet but wait so 10:50 basically you know no the only major 10:55 problem I had with because it was that 10:57 she was just so awful somewhat may have 10:59 some angry she was so angry and they 11:01 play right into that angry black woman 11:03 stigma 11:05 on Annette really like okay I don't like 11:07 this girl in the movie like she liked 11:09 everybody every little figure is dying 11:11 well the best friend brother like she 11:17 didn't do stupid stuff at the stupid 11:18 stuff and she's really not making 11:20 anybody like her in the booth so I don't 11:23 really understand why spiking it right 11:25 down that road to the butt but I think 11:28 it's one thing that we do need to 11:30 understand that I know that some time is 11:32 harness here and sometimes it's hard for 11:35 us to you know hear a true friend see 11:36 true sometime but a lot of times our 11:39 women are angry they have a lot of 11:40 things that they're going through and 11:43 they come off like that specially to the 11:45 black men so kind of seeing that 11:47 download made us what he wants to 11:48 portray was a hey you know we need to 11:51 start being nicer to each other you know 11:53 loving and caring and cherishing the 11:55 people around you more that might be 11:58 which one has you know reasons for 12:00 making the movie and making her portray 12:02 this type of image in the movie I'm now 12:05 writing the most part but you just have 12:06 some part she was coming to her friends 12:08 just means her brother's called many 12:11 type of thing and like really show 12:13 reason for her Deepa 12:14 mmm-hmm like when her brother's comes 12:16 and takes up for after she basically 12:18 lose a cool what to do next are fighting 12:23 him because he said smartest comment was 12:27 like yeah boom you know right we know 12:32 what's happening he going to jail he he 12:35 whole life was born so it needs to be 12:37 both side start physically attacking 12:40 people 12:41 just because you mad so I think he was 12:44 trying I think the writers maybe were 12:47 trying to show us a little more 12:49 restraint and shows that if we have a 12:51 time machine we make different choices 12:53 to back some of that and you know I know 12:57 I'm kind of talking about I respect him 13:00 for doing it so it was more like this is 13:02 how real black people interact a lot of 13:04 times and this is not necessarily the 13:07 best way we interact but this is a 13:09 truthful 13:10 you know presentation of what 13:12 conversation with siblings that are 13:15 african-american and especially without 13:18 they have a 13:19 that died in the movie so that was 13:21 another thing that she had no imploding 13:24 their relationship with the siblings so 13:28 and I think that's what I think that's 13:29 the reason I was she was so mad honestly 13:31 I think I think she had never I don't 13:33 think she's ever dealt with that before 13:35 father died okay 13:39 so but other than that I really enjoyed 13:43 just the different circumstances that 13:46 they chopped you change well go back and 13:50 change the future there's like each time 13:51 they were doing something what happened 13:53 and only to me it seems like it only 13:55 happened because they didn't stick to a 13:58 plan or like basically allow emotions to 14:00 to just run wild a what she she she's 14:08 the cause of most of this to be honest 14:10 not the first part like her brother died 14:12 but when they go back and like she was 14:14 just kind of have a cooler handling some 14:15 things and let them work some stuff out 14:17 and listen to from a friend over here 14:19 cuz he knew got some knowledge he did 14:22 know run right into something hey I know 14:24 what to do now oh just go back and try 14:27 it again yes she does make some bad 14:31 decisions a lot on the movie in it 14:33 doesn't really give you a clear ending 14:36 if he ever makes the right one maybe 14:38 it's some problems for us to just accept 14:41 and you know love the people that we 14:45 have and we know that there may be some 14:48 some tragic does happen to you know be 14:51 able to accept it and forgive and move 14:53 past it nothing to forgive move past it 14:56 so we can live our life you know I'm 14:59 just holding on the stuff is just gonna 15:00 keep bringing it down and I think I see 15:02 kind of what he wanted at the end of the 15:04 movie and why he doesn't get a clear 15:06 definite answer on if it worked yes 15:09 young went back and saw her brother 15:13 after her friend died the second was a 15:15 third time coming in and her brother was 15:19 like I see yesterday type of thing like 15:22 that to me just like okay regardless it 15:25 was about to happen I love you you know 15:29 it's okay 15:30 I'm good 15:32 they said you're okay and you can move 15:34 on with bikes back and I don't know she 15:37 does then doesn't see what she does it 15:39 at the end of the movie but it 15:40 definitely is a cool story and a good 15:43 and a cool way of seeing I guess time 15:47 travel science from the urban yeah I 15:52 agree 15:53 um particularly that last thing that 15:56 you're talking about there's some 15:57 there's some philosophical issues that 16:00 are really discussed like one of the 16:02 things one of the problems with time 16:04 travel they said once you do it and once 16:06 you realize that you can go back and 16:08 change the past that's all that you'll 16:11 ever do 16:12 and the no movie really a drill there's 16:14 only one movie I can think of that 16:15 really really addresses that and that's 16:18 the butterfly effect you know but in 16:20 that movie the reason there's a reason 16:22 why you have to keep doing that that's 16:24 because every time you go back in the 16:25 past 16:26 you mess up something you know you go 16:28 back and change something and now your 16:29 best friend has no legs no I mean this 16:33 movie wasn't it was kind of that but 16:36 really when you get to the end you 16:38 realize that like okay it's implied the 16:41 fact like okay she's very very stubborn 16:43 her mom one of the long the most 16:45 important lines in the whole movie is 16:46 her mom says I've never met any more 16:48 anyone more stubborn than your father 16:50 till I met you 16:51 so to me that means that she's not gonna 16:53 let it go so once she stays her brother 16:56 and her friend when he thinks he's gonna 16:57 do next 17:02 yeah yeah but why wouldn't she want you 17:15 know to me time travel is it's a it's a 17:17 it's a drug almost you know now 17:20 somewhere I've heard recently but 17:22 somebody discussed that like it's a very 17:24 good thing that we don't know how to do 17:26 that and basically you know anytime that 17:28 we have bad days that we're not able to 17:30 undo it the only thing that we can do is 17:32 move forward in time because if we could 17:34 go back and change the things that 17:36 happen in our past that's all we would 17:38 ever do let's go back and paint your 17:40 pants so that doesn't really it's not 17:42 really fair in the movie but I think 17:44 that's implied that that could 17:46 that could happen you know so even the 17:47 movie was an open ending life that 17:49 allows you to have those type of 17:51 thoughts and I think it was better than 17:53 to give us the happy candy because I 17:55 think the brother had accepted the fact 17:58 that he was going to die but by the time 17:59 you get to the third one you could tell 18:01 he's off he sacrificed himself in order 18:04 to say you know the other young man and 18:06 put the old man's like I know I'm good 18:12 yeah 18:13 deuces right I mean I told you from the 18:17 beginning not to do this right you ain't 18:27 my friend your brother you know just 18:29 give that old man thing yeah he's killed 18:32 oh um so with that Chuck I'm kind of the 18:36 same way with you I don't lift the movie 18:40 ended I wasn't quite sure how to feel 18:42 about the movie and the main reason I 18:44 didn't know how to feel about it is cuz 18:46 I just didn't care for the main 18:47 character right don't get me wrong I 18:50 feel her I understand her I get that 18:53 she's mad you know her dad died you know 18:57 without you know if he wasn't sick 19:00 anything it's infer that he probably 19:02 died in the military you know but that 19:05 her anger management issues it just 19:06 turns me off you know and the fact that 19:09 she can't really handle it should make 19:11 bad decisions like when they went back 19:13 in time their first time and when she 19:15 preemptively attacked like her 19:17 ex-boyfriend like they said they want to 19:21 make any major changes and that's the 19:22 first thing and then attack him again 19:30 and that is him getting his uh his arm 19:32 broken and I was kind of disappointed 19:34 that that there weren't any real 19:36 consequences from that like I would have 19:38 thought that because she did that that 19:40 would have caused the domino effect that 19:42 maybe cost her brother to get shot 19:44 you know what I mean I so I wish they 19:46 had kind of done it that way cuz I 19:49 really kind of wanted her to see the 19:51 consequences because the friend had told 19:52 her you we can't do this type of stuff 19:55 we have to be very careful I don't like 19:58 how she treats her friends 19:59 just like he's right you know calm down 20:01 don't come don't tell me to calm down 20:02 and you know she scowls having sometimes 20:05 like she's ready to fight him and I get 20:07 it 20:07 that's you know she's angry but watch 20:09 her roll up on somebody some big dude I 20:12 remember she rolled up on the dude or a 20:14 big dude she could control that anger 20:20 real well right then corny and like 20:28 laughs I'm like here's helping you out 20:30 worrying that you just like roll up to 20:32 the point door and really like just like 20:37 four o'clock in the morning and like 20:39 y'all you don't come with me I see why 20:45 you got dude maybe fires I just I don't 20:49 know sometimes yeah she did turn off I 20:52 would've thought she would have learned 20:53 by like the second time she was back in 20:55 town like okay make master start not 21:00 holding so much forgive people let some 21:03 stuff go except just attacking every 21:05 problem so yeah so yeah she's one thing 21:10 one thing that would have been good if 21:12 she had had that character art like 21:14 somewhere in there may be traveling too 21:15 fast but she had maybe one time she did 21:18 it she got really upset and that calling 21:20 something to go wrong so she went back 21:22 in time and she she's like okay let me 21:26 let me chill and let me be patient and 21:29 let me not go on if I could roll it was 21:31 was telling her at the beginning so she 21:33 could you know you can see that 21:35 development in her I didn't really see 21:36 that development in her you just saw her 21:38 she just didn't she just kind of she 21:41 followed that anger into being into not 21:44 giving up on her brother which was good 21:46 you know but again the movie I think 21:49 it's a good movie but just again just 21:51 that anger a little bit just kind of it 21:53 kind of turns you off a little bit from 21:54 character outside of that is good I 21:57 really like the UM the friend I think he 22:00 was amazing I love how he died like 22:02 twice right when he was dying on the 22:05 ground he was good and then when he was 22:07 like what the 22:11 nice like haven't seen that in the home 22:13 thing I've seen most of all he's making 22:14 like disappear you know he actually died 22:16 oh wow dreaming through the credits like 22:34 okay I know there's something at the end 22:35 of this I felt like I'm like are you 22:38 kidding me and I like the friends acting 22:49 when he found out about the fact that he 22:51 died you know he's like what I just died 22:54 like he was like he was serious like he 22:56 was like he'd been funny to that point 22:57 because like nah nope no more 23:03 but I still recommend I think it I think 23:07 it's a good Chuck last closing thoughts 23:09 on this movie sir definitely check it 23:14 out you know this there's not too many 23:16 movies as you see that are portrayed 23:18 like this one is for training so if you 23:21 like sci-fi like that's your future like 23:24 it said early on the other nice boy 23:26 Michael J Fox yeah yeah time travel Cena 23:37 from know a young young lady of color 23:41 natural hair black she's black girl and 23:45 you know a guy was he was Jamaican 23:48 alright spark Jamaican the others fan 23:50 with the lake well I like I'll just has 23:52 all different types of people in it you 23:54 know that his friend was Puerto Ricans 23:56 and they were smart dude can make like a 23:59 bit play me like uh what kind of making 24:03 a circuit board good boy yeah it's like 24:05 so it's kind of cool seeing the nerd 24:07 side of the urban community was cool so 24:10 yeah definitely check it out good watch 24:12 yeah they might make me mad and up the 24:16 be prepared be prepared this he his 24:19 shout out to Anthony Piper saw his comic 24:21 featured in
