Dream Con 2022 delights again with an even bigger showing than Dream Con 2021. The Dream Con team expanded on all of the great parts about their event last year with the ability to host more people with Covid restrictions lightening. Dream Con is THE event to go to for Black anime and gaming fans. Dream Con has some unique qualities that you won’t find at any other convention, primarily that you will be able to just run into most of your favorite Black content creators at any given moment. Another unique quality is that the nerd swag level is higher at this convention than any other, hence the title The Met Gala for Blerds. Getting tickets for the event is also becoming increasingly more difficult as its popularity grows. Similar to Blerdcon 2022, since we were a vendor at this event we will give a recap here instead of our standard review system. So how was Dream Con 2022?

The Dream Con 2022 Venue

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Dream Con 2022 was held again at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The venue is modern, provides plenty of space, is well lit, and most importantly, is very cool considering it’s an esports arena. Dream Con had dedicated areas for gaming, meet & greets, tabletop, a maid cafe, cosplay repair, and even a lounge if you needed to take a break. The venue is still big enough for the number of attendees and it’s hard to find areas of improvement for the venue itself.

The Dream Con 2022 Event Schedule

The Dream Con teams stepped it up this year with a better schedule and scheduling app. The app even allowed users to update live photos while they were at the event. The scheduling had more variety this year. Some of the panels included Cosplaying While Black, Are You The Main Character (regular readers know how I feel about this), Black Women in Nerdy Spaces, Black Trailblazers in the Anime Industry, and Body Recomp for Cosplay 101: How To Build Your Body For Cosplay. Other special events included Family Feud, dodgeball tournaments, a Smash Bros tournament, RDCWorld vs Eezy Gang, the Cosplay Contest, and even a water gun fight. Being a convention heavily influenced by content creators, there were also plenty of screeners such as Powerpuff Girls Day of Reckoning 2, and Jujutsu Kaisen by King Vader.

The Dream Con 2022 Special Guests & Vendors

Dream Con 2022 had an all-star list of special guests rivaling their showing in 2021. If you want to see your favorite Black content creators Dream Con sets the bar. Having celebrity guests would be an interesting area of growth for Dream Con as the event continues to get larger.

The vendor area expanded for the Dream Con 2022 event and many of your favorite Black Anime Streetwear Brands were in attendance along with many new companies (I will need to make a part 2 article at some point this year). At Dream Con, blerds will be able to find apparel and accessories that represent themselves and their style. There were over 200 distinct vendor booths at Dream Con. Try to set a budget for merch before you go to Dream Con or you will definitely overspend!

The Dream Con 2022 Wait Times

Dream Con continues to grow and with that comes additional logistical work. There were some lines at Dream Con, especially to get inside the venue for attendees and then at some of the night events. However, in comparison to many of the other conventions we have been to, the lines are still very reasonable.

The Dream Con 2022 Vibe

Vibe is one of our most subjective parts of our reviews being overall how an event “feels.” An event can be very small but still have a major impact if the fun factor is there. The venue and the vibe continue to be the strongest parts of Dream Con. It is almost impossible to go to this event and not have fun. Dream Con attracts primarily a Gen Z and Millenial crowd so you are going to feel that energy the entire time. I fully expect Dream Con to sell out ever year, so make sure you get your tickets for Dream Con 2023 early.
