Indie Comics – Drift Of Dreams
This month’s indie comic is “Drift of Dreams” an Afropunk Sci-Fi Fantasy by Swordsfall Studios. The world of Drift of Dreams highlights Black characters, strong Black females, and LGBTQA+ representation.

Brandon Dixon, the creator of Swordsfall, was kind enough to send a copy our way. He categorizes himself as an “omni-nerd who grew up during the golden days of Toonami, Spawn comic books and G4.” However as a Black man in the hobby, he found himself longing for more stories that told the adventures of people that looked like him. That is a message and feeling we can definitely related to on this site.

Now onto the comic itself. Drift of Dreams is the first 187-page graphic novel from the Swordsfall Universe featuring art from ten different artists of color. The story takes place on Tikor, where when humans fall asleep their minds drift into a dimension called the Tapestry. It’s a realm where previously only humans could enter, but unfortunately the dark god, Xavian the Withering King, has other plans to corrupt it.

The human protectors of the Tapestry are called Dreamweavers and they work tirelessly to repel the dark god. The Dreamweavers backs are pushed against the wall and must call in a special Dreamweaver called the Seeker who has explored deeper into the Tapestry than anyone else.

The art in The Drift of Dreams graphic novel is absolutely fire. Make sure to check out Drift of Dreams on Amazon or on the Swordsfall Store. If you read it, let us know what you think on our social media @Blerdofficial.
