Round 1:

Give us an introduction to who you are and the in and outs about your broadcast.

Greeting Cadets! My name is 8Bitoffun but please call me 8Bit. I’m a Variety Streamer, Product Reviewer, and Co-Host on Ziggy’s Epic Podcast on YouTube. My twitch is a very relaxed space where you can forget about the day to day life and relax as Giant Robots fight on the screen or I’m laughing as my impending doom approaches in whatever game I’m playing. I love to talk, cook, and build gunpla (Gundam Model Kits) when time allows me as well as open up Yugioh Card Packs even though I no longer play competitively I search for any new Blue Eyes Card that comes out since I love the card. Other than that you can find me watching Marvel Movies and Shows or catching up on some of the latest anime and watching classics like Yu-Yu Hakusho or Outlaw Star.

Share with the class about your Twitch channel and your community.

I’m the (unofficial) Gundam Ambassador on Twitch, this title was given to me by the community after I got the Gundam Breaker 3 speed run record for the hardest difficulty because if it’s a Gundam Game then 9 out of 10 I’m giving it a shot on Twitch and I answer all questions related to the games as best as I can. I’m not a hardcore Gundam fan that knows everything about every series but I watched and read enough to hold a conversation. The Gundam Community can be a bit much for someone who hasn’t started at the beginning or keeps up with all the latest news so I offer a haven where all levels of devotion are appreciated and everyone can safely state their opinion and debate the topics without crossing lines. We hold a lot of anime debate topics based on the game and everyone enjoys each other thought process when they aren’t figuring out new ways to make me laugh from having my Text To Speech make sprinkler sounds or Using it to read their autobiography we all get along great and I send them Christmas Cards as a Thank You for all the support they’ve given me.

Twitch is all about games and creativity. What type of content do you stream on your channel?

I started playing Mario Maker and then transitioned out of Nintendo games and into Anime games such as Gundam Breaker 3, Dragon Ball Xenoverse series, SD Gundam Generations Series. On Monday’s I Co-Host Ziggy’s Epic Podcast which we do Live on Ziggythebeast Twitch Channel but all my content revolve around Viewer engagement. I play a lot of viewer suggestion games are games on people’s radar that they just want honest feedback about so I ended up doing essentially live product reviews and letting people know if they should wait for it to go on sale or if it’s worth getting in its current state. With all of this Gundam Breaker 3 will be forever Bae in my gaming catalog since it helped me improve my content creator skills so much.

What made you start this journey in streaming and when did you start?

In all honesty it was to prove a point to someone and shove it in their face that I wasn’t a failure. I’ve been making YouTube content for about 12 years now on and off different channels with different groups when I got into a heated argument with someone and they called me a failure. Not wanting to be proven wrong I just decided to do things on my own and not give up on myself. I got tired of depending on others for recording equipment and editing so I fired up my computer on September 24, 2015 and said “I’m going live with Destiny” for 10 hours. It was a complete failure, I had no idea what I was doing and didn’t research anything other than “How to start streaming” on Google. I had no alerts or bots and let’s just say I took a full year off streaming after that to focus on myself and what I could do better on the next run. Also I shorted my computer out making it adequate for streaming when I had no idea what I was doing.

What are some of the issues and challenges that you’ve faced on Twitch and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge for me on twitch is one that I’m still going through. I’ve yet to find a game I can call my staple and be happy with it. I play and enjoy a lot of games but having that one special game, that one that has a variety of content that I can countlessly indulge in like an MMO or Competitive Game. I really am jealous of those that found their heart on twitch and it makes me happy that I have an excitement to look forward to someday….Hopefully soon! The best thing I can say is play whatever intrigues you, that is how I found Gundam Breaker 3 which helped me break out of Nintendo games and move into the anime game direction where I was welcomed with open arms along with my Stream Team GECKO SWARM, Dizzydizaster who made it is by far one of the most awesome and friendly people I met and has helped me when I questioned my own content and assured me I’m doing great I just have to keep going and the payoff is worth it.

In regards to issues, now that is an area I’m proud to say I know way too much about. Trolls are by far one of the issues I ran into on twitch but I have come up with some my own particular way of dealing with them. A lot of the trolls usually follow their own twitch channel so I used to check out their channel and work my way through the rabbit hole live on twitch and then pretty much critique their streams live on air or I’d politely just tell them “I’m sorry you are having a bad day or moment in life and you feel the need to be a horrible individual based on the color of my skin or my weight but if this what you need to get it out of your system you can do it quietly behind closed doors but you aren’t the first troll or last I will have. If you enjoy the game feel free to watch but until then please STFU” you’d be very shocked how many times they will actually apologize once they see they aren’t getting the reaction they want out of you and they’ll move on. You can’t let trolls take control of the stream and destroy your atmosphere. My viewers love when trolls come in because they know the content is about to be EXTRA and they wait for me to either reverse troll them or drop the “You messed with the right one” moment.

The other issue I’d probably bring up is MODS, your mods just aren’t your friends that you want to give clout to. You have to make sure they are an extension of you so you might need to make sure they have the same stream values you have while upholding their duties of keeping your chat safe, moderating and stepping in on situations, and shoutout out raids and host while welcoming new members when you are busy. Your mods can really make or break a channel so be selective and let people know “Hey, this is my stream I want to push it as far as it can go and if you aren’t going to be around as much your MOD title is revoked” it your business and sometimes it’s not all fun and games when you are having fun and playing games.

What are some of the resources and support that you use, that’s out there for creating a broadcast on Twitch?

I do a lot of my research by jumping into other people’s streams and asking questions when the moment is right or they are silent and chat kinda slowed down. To a lot of people I’m the resource and they ask me about twitch and how I do certain things so I decided to create a YouTube Channel catered to New and Curious people wanting to create content but not wanting to fork over a lot of money to start. It’s nothing fancy but I do product reviews on affordable Cameras, Lighting solutions, and Capture devices that would be suitable for starting out without a big investment. I really enjoy teaching people about doing this as a lot of streamers treat it as a secret and refuse to talk about growing on any platform as some believe if I teach them to fish then I’m dooming myself to losing my audience so why chop off my own fingers.

I watch Gael Level on YouTube since he also shows affordable tips and tricks for people, Gaming Careers on YouTube as I feel he gives an honest opinion on products but I’m always looking for more suggestions when it comes to people who make content for content creators who want to help others grow.

Blerd is all things nerd and geek through a people of color culture lens. What makes you a blerd?

I’ve been into gaming before I’ve walked according to my mother (R.I.P.), I’ve watched anime before I knew what it was from the old SpeedRacer, Ronin Warriors, and Dragon Ball I remember watching Dragon ball after school and practicing the Wolf Fang Fist on my brother’s Punching Bag trying to mimic every move hopping one day I would have to use it on someone. I also collect Funko Pops and probably have over 300 of them now with come pretty cool rare ones and retired ones including the Tony Stark SDCC, Jungle Book set, and Wreck-It Ralph Set. A big IRONMAN fan and I mean OG comic Ironman and I had a large comic book collection before Hurricane Katrina but I love reading and opening a fresh comic page turning thrill when things are getting good is the best part for me. My anime taste are pretty decent and I love watching anything with informative information in it and facts like Dr. Stone does now. My anime to watch without question would be a stalemate between Gundam 08th MS Team, Yu-Yu Hakusho, and Outlaw Star. I love going to conventions and seeing what I can snag up on the first day before the heavy foot traffic arrives and I always leave with a sword or weapon from an anime when I go to one.

Round 2:

You’ve only been given 3 games to play for the rest of your life, what are you playing and why?

SD Gundam G Generation Genesis: It has my favorite Gundam Hot Scramble, It’s an extremely long JRPG with character customization so I can do new characters and stats as much as I want and I’d probably never finish it even if I had the rest of my life to do it that’s how long it is to 100% for me.

SNES Mario All-Stars: I get Mario 3, plus Super Mario World, and Lost levels. I mean the value alone in one game is beautiful so I get some variety.

Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash : PLOT. All the Plot

Which video game character is bae?

This is a legit tie between Tifa Lockhart FF7 Remake and Mei from Overwatch. Thickness is a sickness for me.

What’s a game that you absolutely hate but everyone else might like?

ALL SOULS GAME!! When I say ALL SOUL games, I mean the entire category Demons, Dark, Bloodbourne, oh you name it it’s on site for me. Don’t come to my house with these games you will be left outside waiting for your Uber on GAWD. My community enjoys these games and they purchased Demon Souls for me on PS5 which I managed to get past the tutorial after 4 hours but haven’t made it past anything else. If you enjoy those types of punishments I mean we all like what we like at the end of the day it doesn’t mean I have to play it.

Your favorite person is making your favorite dish, who is it and what is it?

My mom and nothing beats a bowl of my mom’s gumbo hands down the best thing I learned to cook.

If you could be any superhero who would it be and why?

Got to be Tony Stark from the Superior Ironman series. I’m rich, I have a symbiote liquid metal nanotech suit and I’m Ironman. What else could you need at that point?
