whats their twitch

Grace and Peace Blerd Fam! If you didn’t know, Twitch is the platform for everything gaming related and creativity. You can find some of the biggest names in the gaming community there. I wanted to create a spotlight for growing Twitch streamers that I know you will enjoy.

Now, I want to introduce to you Bruhnanuhz! She’s an amazing person and an awesome streamer. I wanted to share her story with you. So “What’s Their Twitch?”, you can find her at www.twitch.tv/Bruhnanuhz. She streams Sunday through Thursday at 9:00 pm until 12:00 am. You can find her on her Instagram and Twitter at @Bruhnanuhz.

Round 1:

Give us an introduction to who you are and the ins and outs of your broadcast. Share with the class about your Twitch channel and your community.

My name is Briana and I’m a 26-year-old from South Florida. My username is pronounced Bruh- nan- uhz. Why Bruhnanuhz? It sounded like a cool way to say my real name… and bananas. My stream has a lot of banana content, but ironically enough, I hate bananas (lol). I do love pomegranates though! I love my stream community. While they jokingly bully me, it’s always in good fun and it always makes me laugh, because I am, in fact, occasionally trash at the games I love. So much so that I made emotes for it.

Twitch is all about games and creativity. What type of content do you stream on your channel?

I currently stream a variety of games, my game of choice being Rainbow Six: Siege. I try to mix in other games that different people would also enjoy so that my content doesn’t become one-note. I’ve also started art streams on my channel as well, where I create canvases with melted crayons.

What made you start this journey in streaming and when did you start?

I started my streaming journey back in 2015 when I noticed a lack of representation of black women streamers on Twitch. I am happy to say that in 2020, I have noticed a significant increase in our presence on Twitch.

What are some of the issues and challenges that you’ve faced on Twitch and how did you overcome them?

I think the biggest issue and is probably an issue for a lot of streamers, is convincing yourself to continue streaming. There are times when you feel like you’re streaming to no one, or that your numbers have either plateaued or decreased. It’s a discouraging feeling and makes me feel like I’ve hit a rut, making me falter in my consistency. However, I’m fortunate to have such an encouraging community and group of supportive friends around me to encourage me to push forward.

What are some of the resources and support that you use, that’s out there for creating a broadcast on Twitch?

The resources that I’ve used in building my channel are both StreamElements and StreamLabs. The former has been the biggest help for me in terms of overlays and stream notifications. The latter has changed the quality of the content that I capture and has been much easier for me to use. Both have been invaluable to me in making a brand for myself. However, one of the main support systems that I have used for my channel is the opinion of my friends. They’ve been very helpful in the areas that I need to improve upon with both content and quality. Additionally, one of the best forms of growth for me has been watching other streamers. It gives me insight on areas that I’m lacking in with my own content creation, or things that I want to stand by.

Blerd is all things nerd and geek through a people of color culture lens. What makes you a Blerd?

I think that I consider myself a blerd because I would prefer to spend more time indoors playing games and watching anime. Growing up, I didn’t grow up with people that shared these passions with me. Usually, I was alone with my excitement for new games or shows, but it’s nice having other POC to share that with now.

Round 2:

You’ve only been given 3 games to play for the rest of your life, what are you playing and why?

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, The Sims 4, and Overcooked 2. These games for me have high replay value and, aside from Sims, it is a lot of fun with friends.

Which video game character is bae?

Buck & Valkyrie

What’s a game that you absolutely hate but everyone else might like?

Fortnite and most battle royale games.

Your favorite person is making your favorite dish, who is it and what is it?

Me… I’m cooking my favorite dish… I’m making steak LUL.

If you could be any superhero who would it be and why?

The superhero I would want to be is Quicksilver. I’m a procrastinator and being super fast means I can make up for lost time lol.
