What’s Their Twitch? itsRubieRose Interview
Grace and Peace fam! As you know, Twitch is the platform for everything gaming related and creativity. You can find some of the biggest names in the gaming community there. I wanted to create a spotlight for growing Twitch streamers that I know you will enjoy.

Next up we have itsRubieRose, a variety streamer, and sweet as pie. If you’re ready to have a laughing fit, in her stream is where you want to be. I wanted to share her story with you. So “What’s Their Twitch?”, you can find her at www.twitch.tv/itsRubieRose. She streams Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm. You can also find her on Instagram at itsrubierose and on Twitter at RubieRose_
Round 1:
Give us an introduction to who you are and the in and outs about your broadcast.
Share with the class about your Twitch channel and your community.
Hey! I’m It’sRubieRose people call me Rubie for short. I’m a console gamer who streams fro her PC using Remote Play and OBS Classic. I broadcast gameplays for the most part, but I love talking to people and having conversations. I’d like to think my community is about loving yourself and self-acceptance. Something I suffer with myself. When people come to my channel. I hope they feel free to be themselves.
Twitch is all about games and creativity. What type of content do you stream on your channel?
Gameplay is my channel’s default. I’m breaking into Just Chatting streams this year. People also tell me I’m funny as hell. (I’m just saying the first thing that pops in my head; guess that makes me hilarious).
What made you start this journey in streaming and when did you start?
My best friend at the time said Twitch would be a great fit for me. I didn’t believe him I watched him stream. At some point, I began working with him on his stream. Slowly I gave him ideas and suggestions but the way he streamed and the way I wanted him to stream didn’t mesh well. Creative differences. It was at this point (to preserve our friendship) we split up the team. He streamed the way he wanted. And I stopped being a scaredy-cat and tried streaming for myself. I messed up a lot, came out of my shell a LOT. And I caught the streaming bug. Never looked back. January 25, 2019, was my first stream. Same day as the Kingdom Hearts 3 release. Now January 25 is my KH Day to honor the day.

What are some of the issues and challenges that you’ve faced on Twitch and how did you overcome them?
Y’all want the real answer? Feeling safe on Twitch is my biggest challenge on this platform. Trolls come and follow with vile, hateful screen names. People come and start out kind and end up being rude. Racists come and raid and flood alerts. I have been hit with 2 bot attacks in the short time I started streaming. I have been hated for my skin tone, sexual orientation, my HAIR. Or simply for disagreeing with a viewer. I don’t think you can overcome trolls. You learn how to deal. For me, I talk to my community, I talk to my streamer friends, I take a break if need be. I remind myself I didn’t ask for this behavior, it’s a part of being a content creator.
What are some of the resources and support that you use, that’s out there for creating a broadcast on Twitch?
I am a student at the University of YouTube and Discord. Also, I got no shame in asking questions. I learned over time that most streamers don’t want other streamers to deal with the headache of learning something on their own, because they understand how complicated online broadcasting can be.
Blerd is all things nerd and geek through a people of color culture lens. What makes you a blerd?
Here’s my Blerd card: I was the only brown kid in my hood who watched anime. I loved Sailor Moon to obsession level. We talking stan level. I was laughed at for reading a “backward comic book” I was made fun of for liking magical warriors. When it was time to move past dolls I went over to gaming. I love video games, superheroes, and anime. Things that for whatever reason in the 90s wasn’t associated as being black. But I’m elated times have changed.

Round 2:
You’ve only been given 3 games to play for the rest of your life, what are you playing and why?
Overwatch for the skins. SuperSmash Bros because I love Kirby. GTA Online because it’s Sims for gangstas.
Which video game character is bae?
AJ from The Walking Dead Series. CLEM TOLD HIM HE WAS JUSTIFIED!
What’s a game that you absolutely hate but everyone else might like?
Absolver. The game had so much potential. It’s free, awesome, fighting game with all types of styles and combos ranging from drunken kung fu to Bruce Lee’s actual IRL style. Open-world, free-roaming, co-op and PVP, and competitive fights. Great graphics and story. My problems with it? A fighting game with NO GRABS OR THROW MOVES. And The game wants you to wear armor but no one wears it because it slows the character. Everyone wants to play the naked fast ninja. No one wants to be on the defense. It was a sad divorce for me.
Your favorite person is making your favorite dish, who is it and what is it?
That would be my kid and if she had the skill it would be Korean Bulgogi. Damnit now I’m hungry.
If you could be any superhero who would it be and why?
This is gonna be super cheesy. But if I could be any superhero it would be Garnet from Steven Universe. She fought for love and acceptance. Goals.
